Active Weekends

| 4 comments

If you’re reading this blog, then I can assume you are an active person. Well done for making the most of your life-doing the things you love, spending time with friends and family and staying happy.

For the locals in Cape Town here are some activities happening this weekend to make a difference to your life as well as all similar-minded people. The weather is looking good!

Saturday -Trail Build Day

On Saturday 27th August there is a trail build happening in the Tokai forest on the Vasbyt trail (you know, the fun one!). Meet at the Tokai gate at 12:45 and work goes on until 4pm. Come and help make your trails better! Upon arrival,just introduce yourself to the people hanging around with the dangerous looking tools-the guy in charge is Deon. You can see what we get up to here.

Here is some advice;
* Wear old clothing -you’ll get dirty!
* Bring gloves -unless you are hoping to lose your fingerprints!
* Wear enclosed shoes -if you drop a rock or log onto your toes you’ll be sorry wearing flip flops
* Bring water and maybe a bite to eat so you can have energy the whole day
* Bring a friend
* Get out there! Even if it’s just for 2 hours.

Sunday -Table Mountain Safety Day

Mountain bike on Table Mountain

On Sunday 28th August we are hoping to get over 100 riders on Table Mountain riding on the same route (From kloof Nek to Kings block house) to show the authorities that us cyclists use and care about Table Mountain too! There should be more info here

Please arrive at the Kloof Nek parking area on time, preferably no later than 8:40am. We are leaving at 9am sharp!

The route is just under 9km long with about 300meters elevation so nice and easy so everyone and their dog can join in. The first 500m of the route will be on tar and marshals will help with the traffic.

It is an awareness ride (NOT a race!) at a leisurely pace and it would be great to see some kids,mom’s , dad’s , the fit and the unfit on their mountain bikes too.

Supercycling are sending a cameraman on a quad to film the event and hopefully there will be coffee or something at the blockhouse.

iRide Africa and friends will be riding to Kloof Nek from the bottom Rhodes Memorial gate. Meet at the gate at 7:20am. On the way back home, if you’re lucky, you can ride these trails :)

    Thanks Daniel,

    If you are interested in joining us this Saturday 27th at Tokai for the build, leave a comment. The more we have on the day, the cooler the trail for Sunday..

    Deon, I will probably join you if I can get away from my other duties and I will try to bring a few others.

    Hey Jesse,
    We would be coming by that spot I think (up the switchback road), leading to Tafelberg Road. We'll be there at about7:30-7:40 I imagine. See you!
